Meet the BABE team!

Amy LaMotta - BS, IBCLC, RLC

“As I work with clients through my time with BABE, I see the confidence that parents gain working with an IBCLC on their feeding journey with their child. I see parents empowered, encouraged, and motivated and I feel blessed to be a small part of that.”

- Amy LaMotta, IBLCLC for BABE

I didn’t start out with dreams of becoming an IBCLC. I grew up with dreams of being a teacher. I love children and have worked with them in so many different capacities that it just made sense to go into Early Childhood Education. Once graduated from Texas Tech University, I spent a few years teaching 1st grade and preschool before I became a stay-at-home parent with my husband and my first child. Over the next 8 years, we welcomed two more kiddos to our family.

Having breastfed three children by the time my friends just started having babies made me the “unofficial breastfeeding expert” amongst our group. I started researching complex breastfeeding and postpartum issues as they came up among my family and friends and became more and more interested in sharing the knowledge with others. Mostly, I saw a deep need for encouragement and support during an especially vulnerable time as a parent. This small role amongst friends and family turned into a big push towards a career as a Lactation Consultant. I was just filled with motivation to become that support for other families and started my journey to becoming an IBCLC in January 2020.

As I finish my last 6 months of education and interning with BABE and prepare to sit for the IBCLC exam Fall 2022, I feel excited about the opportunity to impact lives through this work. As I work with clients through my time with BABE, I see the confidence that parents gain working with an IBCLC on their feeding journey with their child. I see parents empowered, encouraged, and motivated and I feel blessed to be a small part of that.

“I initially set up an in-home consultation when my daughter was a few weeks old to ask a few questions and get help creating a future pumping plan. It turned out that she needed a lot of help with feeding and had multiple issues to work through, so I was so relieved to be working with such a knowledgeable, patient, and caring consultant who helped us work through many breastfeeding and bottle feeding techniques to find a solution that helped her get on track.”
