My experience with breastfeeding and lactation began at a young age. My grandmother was a La Leche League Leader and helped my mother with breastfeeding. Because I grew up watching my mom and aunts breastfeed their toddlers, I heard about breastfeeding all the time and it seemed like a normal part of life for me.

Fast forward to college and I had my first son in nursing school. Breastfeeding him was very rough early on and I went to many La Leche League (LLL) meetings to learn more from other mothers. The LLL meetings as well as my postpartum rotation in nursing school helped me realize how much I enjoyed helping mothers with breastfeeding. I was so excited when I realized I could use my nursing degree to help mothers with breastfeeding, and felt I had found my passion and calling in life!

After graduating with a Bachelors in Science in Nursing I began to work on becoming a lactation consultant. I had my second son and became a LLL Leader, following in my grandmother’s footsteps. After spending 4 years solely as a Registered Nurse and having one more baby boy, I was able to obtain enough hours of working with breastfeeding families to take the test to become an Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant.

In the summer of 2015 my husband had a job opportunity in Houston which brought us to the Pearland area. I began working in a large hospital system in the Texas Medical Center and continued with LLL Leadership, where I met Leah. I watched as she continued to grow Bay Area Breastfeeding and Education (BABE) and was so impressed Leah’s capabilities and the team she had put together. Naturally, I jumped at the opportunity to become a BABE in early 2019.

I am so thankful for the knowledge I have gained in the hospital lactation setting, in my volunteer role, and in my combined 7 years of breastfeeding 3 little boys! My experience has ranged from assisting the tiniest of premature babies with latching to helping mothers gently wean their toddlers. Every family has a different background and distinct feeding journey and I am excited to be working with BABE to help each one meet their unique feeding goals.
